Beyond Youtube

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by on 02-12-2008

Youtube is a great source for teaching not only English but also for many other areas of teaching. We can use youtube for many ways in our teaching.
* Students can create their own videos about a project and other students can commnent on it.
* We can find some useful videos about our topic and students can be assigned to watch and comment on them.
* Students watch a video from youtube and they answer different kinds of questions about the video.
* The most important thing about a video is that students can hear authentic language anytime anywhere avaliable.Because internet is avaliable 24/7.
And so many other ways to use it.But it’s a pity that youtube is forbidden for a long time in Turkey. It may even more than a year because of the illegal content about Turkey. So what other alternatives can we think for youtube?
Google video is one of these alternatives. But many of the videos are linked to youtube so it won’t be a good choice for you if youtube doesn’t work in your country.
Dotsub is great if you want to see subtitles in any language.
Teachertube is another site that will be a great source for personal development or for a resource for our students.
Hulu is another recommended site for use in classes.
Schooltube is another resource for videos. The videos are all students produced and teacher approved. It is safe to use in schools. Also it is fun because there are contests that students can apply for;also it’s free.
Bliptv is another free site and a good alternative to youtube.
Videojug is another podcast that let you find videos for lower levels of students. If you are looking for intermediate level of english, here they are.
