prerna12.284173249Many of us are building out traditional quizzes for our pupils so here is a challenge for tech savvy teachers to play with some quiz generators in the summer time to have a techie-start to the new school year.

The first tool is the EasyTestMaker. You can spice things up with multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, matching, short answer or true and false questions. If you want, you can use them all on the same test as well. All the tests are saved so you can make any changes on the quiz that you have created before. It also includes spell check.

Hot Potatoes is a favourite of mine and this is the quiz generator that we use to create different types of tests at school for all grades. There are six different interactive web-based test types that you can create. You can choose to have a multiple-choice, short answer, jumbled sentence, crossword, matching/ordering or gap fill exercises.  You can add your own pictures or choose from the cliparts; also you can add mp3 files to your tests. It’s an open source and can be downloaded to any computer.  You can have a look the tutorials here.

With QuizCentre, you can create, administer and grade quizzes online. It also provides instant feedback.

QuizEgg is a web based online test maker. There are eight different question types. You can create different types of test such as matching, ordering, fill in the blanks, multiple response, word list, essay or true/false questions. Quiz Egg gives you the ability to randomize the order of the questions, allow retakes, show answers of the questions after the students take the quiz. You can also upload pictures, spreadsheets, excel or word documents. You can customize the background and make the quiz look more professional. You get the detailed reports after the students have taken the quiz.

QuizMaker lets you create multiple choice quizzes. You can add pictures or links to your quizzes. When you finish, you simply cut and paste it to your web page.

Simple VLE is a virtual learning environment that lets you create online tests, quizzes and exams. After the completion, you can see the scores and the given answers. If you want, you can allow the students to see the results of their exams.

Quizinator helps you to create, store and print exams and quizzes as well as worksheets and study sheets on any topic.

MyStudio lets you create multiple choice or question&answer style quizzes with pictures, video and HTML formatted text. At the end, you can get a detailed scores of the students and a feedback. You can embed them to your class blog or  your website.

You can also try PhotoPeach to create a slideshow with a quiz in it.

These tools seem to be very easy to learn and use and sure to save time for tech savvy teachers!!

Are these all free? Or do I need to look at each one to find out? Thanks for the list!

    Fantastic.
Thanks for this, Özge. I’ve just been looking for such tools. The bird flies past and it is your post it drops.
Thanks. Will test them and share what comes out of it.

Do also have a look at my own ContentGenerator.net software – this includes free and pay for generator programs that allow teacher to generate their own Flash-based learning games. Free ones include Fling the Teacher and Teacher Invaders. It would be good to be included in your list.

Nice list! Another good one is called classmarker – allows you to put web images into a quiz. The URL is http://www.classmarker.com/ My kids actually like that I use this site!

I use Acces4 from EducAide. It’s an awesome test/quiz generator, plus it has a bunch of other cool features like flashcards, calendars, and overheads. I like it better than the online ones I’ve tried because I can edit the problems and format them pretty much however I want. (They also have free online training, which is a big bonus.) It’s not free, but it’s reasonable for a school-wide or district purchase, especially if you create a lot of your own instructional materials.

    Ozge,

A handy list and reference – thanks!

I’d also add http://eslvideo.com/ for making a quick quiz from a youtube video. Embed also on your webpage.

I like quiz generators and we have Fling the teacher on EFL Classroom which is popular. Just enter the question and correct/incorrect answers and generate an attractive game.

I also highly recommend http://quizlet.com I have made hundreds of sets teachers can use. You get flashcards but it also generates a great quiz of the set. Here’s a basic example. http://quizlet.com/2429072/test/

    Thanks again,

    David

Thanks Özge for this great list of resources.

May I also recommend ‘Fling the Teacher’? It’s available as a free download from http://www.contentgenerator.net/fling/

It’s a mutli-choice format with each correct answer allowing students to build part of a catapult. 15 right answers and the teacher gets flung! I tried it with my 3rd Grade students last semester and they loved it.

I like your blog. I also like the information on creating quizzes. I am wondering if anyone out there knows any free survey sites or, more specifically, a site that would let me gather information from students.

I see around 700 students a year. I would like to make as much grading as sutomated as possible.

More importantly, I would like to be able to collect information from the kids at the beginning of the year. I want to get birthdays, phone numbers, parent email, information from a learning styles survey. Right now, I get the information than have to input it into a spreadsheet myself. Time consuming. I have been looking for about three years and haven’t seen anything that was free that I could use.

  9.   Lottie Says:

Sarah! I think I might be able to help. Formsonthefly.co.uk is a form builder app that will allow you to get all the information from parents at the beginning of term very easily. Drop me an email at lottie@formsonthefly.co.uk and I can help you out.

In fact, http://www.formsonthefly.co.uk should be an addition to this great list. It simple tools make it very easy to design forms that do not just collect information but deliver it too! Visit the website to find out more.

This is cool. I never thought there is a tool to create quizzes. I find this great because educators will not spend time in creating exams and can use the time to make lesson plans. I really appreciate your effort for sharing your knowledge. Thank you.
